This invention is to provide a green color phosphor that exhibits a green color luminance higher than that of conventional rare-earth-activated sialon phosphors, being superior in durability to conventional oxide phosphors. There is provided a phosphor comprising a crystal of oxynitride or nitride with β type Si3N4 crystal structure in which Eu is contained in the form of solid solution, which phosphor is capable of emitting fluorescence having a peak in a wavelength zone ranging from 500 to 600 nm upon irradiation of an excitation source. |
