abstract The purpose of the present invention is to provide a practical and compact light-emitting device, which has a diffraction optical film on its light emission surface, efficiently and by low cost. The light-emitting device (LD) includes a diffraction optical film (DF), which is formed on its light-emission surface. The diffraction film contains a translucent DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) layer; and the DLC layer includes a refractive index modulation type diffraction grating, which includes a local region having a relatively high refractive index and a local region having a relatively low refractive index.
