abstract The present invention relates to a pyro-electric electron source, comprising a hermetic chamber (1), provided with at least a beryllium window (3) and internally containing a crystal (2) of pyro-electric material arranged in front of said beryllium window (3), a heating or cooling element (6) for said crystal (2), an inert gas at low pressure and a device (4) comprising a non-evaporable getter material. The source of the invention has particular application as ionizing device for an ion mobility spectrometer.
