A method of modifying a surface of a material is provided, which is characterized by treating a material having amino groups with an aldehyde obtained by the oxidative cleavage reaction of glycerophosphorylcholine to introduce phosphorylcholine groups represented by the following formula (1-1) onto the material surface. (where R1, R2 and R3 are independently expressed as C1-C6 linear or branched alkyl group and n=2-4.) By the method, the method of introducing phosphorylcholine groups stably onto the material surface and various materials excellent in biocompatibility and hydrophilicity and usable as medical materials, etc. are provided. Furthermore, powder suitable for the use for cosmetics, biomedical material, filler of spectrometric analysis, etc. is provided. The surface treated material is suitable for the use as final product or semi-product of biomedical material, cosmetics recipe ingredient, filler of spectrometric analysis, etc. The method is also suitable for modifying parts of separation analytical devices. |
