abstract It is intended to provide a novel process for producing a functional peptide nucleic acid (PNA) oligomer which comprises, after cutting out a PNA oligomer having thymine or adenine, guanine or cytosine protected with a protective group and a Cbz group from a resin support, substituting the Cbz group of the PNA oligomer by a functional molecule and then putting off the protective group (i.e., deprotection), and a functional PNA oligomer obtained by this method, namely, a novel method of synthesizing a functional PNA whereby any functional molecules can be transferred at an extremely high speed, a compound to be used therein and a novel functional PNA.
