abstract | An adsorbent for oral administration characterized by consisting of an activated spherical carbon made from a thermosetting resin as a carbon source and having a diameter of 0.01 to 1 mm and a specific surface area of 1000 m<SP>2</SP>/g or more, said specific surface area being calculated by Langmuir adsorption equation is disclosed. Further, an adsorbent for oral administration characterized by consisting of a surface-modified activated spherical carbon made from a thermosetting resin as a carbon source and having a diameter of 0.01 to 1 mm, a specific surface area of 1000 m<SP>2</SP>/g or more, a total acidic groups of 0.40 to 1.00 meq/g, and a total basic groups of 0.40 to 1.10 meq/g, said specific surface area being calculated by Langmuir adsorption equation is disclosed. The adsorbents for oral administration exhibit a useful selective adsorbability, that is, low adsorbability to useful substances in the body and high adsorbability to toxic substances. |
