titleOfInvention | Sound-deadening acrylic sheet |
abstract | Acrylic sheet for use as non-transparent sound-deadening unit in noise barriers, where the dimension or size of the sheet [sic] is 2 x 2 m or greater at a thickness of more than 8 mm, preferably more than 12 mm, and where threads, tapes, grids, or nets made from a material incompatible with the acrylic sheet have been embedded into the acrylic sheet to bind splinters in the event of fracture of the sheet, and where the proportion of fillers, based on the total weight of the sheet (calculated without embedded threads, tapes, grids or nets) is from 40 to 80 percent by weight. Particularly, preferred fillers are extender materials composed of talc and dolomite, where appropriate and preferably in a mixture with aluminium hydroxide. A process for producing these sheets is also claimed. The highly filled acrylic sheets are a low-cost alternative to other non-transparent materials, are extremely easy to combine with transparent sound-deadening acrylic sheets, and, due to their high weight per unit area, permit sufficient sound-deadening mass to be achieved despite a reduced sheet thickness. Surprisingly, the highly filled sheets permit the use of splinter-binding systems, such as nylon threads or steel threads, and are classified B2 for fire performance, or indeed in fire class B1 if aluminium hydroxide is used as filler. |
