abstract | A method for the start-up of a process for the epoxidation of an olefin, which method process comprises (a) pre-soaking a silver-based highly selective epoxidation catalyst with an organic halide, and (b) passing over the pre-soaked catalyst a feed which is free of organic halide or which comprises an organic halide at a concentration of at most 2 x 10-4 mole-%, calculated on the basis of the halogen content relative to the total feed, for a period of more than 16 hours up to 200 hours; a catalyst suitable for the epoxidation of an olefin, which catalyst is obtainable by the said method; and a process for the epoxidation of an olefin, which process comprises the said method and wherein subsequently the catalyst is contacted with a feed comprising the olefin, oxygen and an organic halide wherein the concentration of the organic halide is at least 0.2 x 10-4 mole-% higher than the concentration applied in step (b), calculated on the basis of the halogen content relative to the total feed. |
