abstract | The present invention is generally directed to electroluminescent Ir (III) compounds with phosphinoalkoxides and phenylpyridines or phenylpyrimidines, and devices that are made with the Ir (III) compounds. An organic electronic device comprising an active layer, wherein at least 20% by weight of the active layer comprises at least one compound having Formula I below: IrLaLbL' where La and Lb are alike or different and each of La and Lb has Formula II, shown in Figure 1, wherein: R1 through R8 are independently selected from hydrogen, deuterium, alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, nitro, cyano, fluoro, Cn(H+F)2n+1, OCn(H+F)2n+1, and OCF2X, where n is an integer from 1 through 12, and X is H, CI, or Br, and A is C or N, provided that when A is N, there is no R1; and L' is a bidenate phosphino alkoxide ligand having Formula III, shown in Figure 2, wherein: R9 can be the same or different at each occurrence and is selected form Cm(H+F)2n+1, C6(H+F)pY5-p, R10 can be the same or different at each occurrence and is selected from H, F, and Cn(H+F)2n+1; Y is Cm(H+F)2m+1; n is an integer from 1 through 12; m is 2 or 3; p is 0 or an integer from 1 through 5. |
