abstract The invention relates to the production of staple fibers from twist yarns (2) made from a spinning solution comprising water, cellulose and tertiary aminoxide according to the lyocell method. According to the invention, it is provided that the tertiary aminoxide is not washed out of the twist yarns (2) before being cut by the cutting means (9). With this measure, stitch tightness is increased. In particular, in the process and apparatus according to the invention, the staple stiffness of the lyocell staple fibers is at least 15 cN / tex, and even partially at least 20 cN / tex.
