titleOfInvention | Tobacco processing method to reduce nitrosamine content. |
abstract | Methods to reduce the content of carcinogenic nitrosamine in harvested leafy plants such as tobacco and marijuana and to prevent their occurrence are described. The methods are for microwave and / or high frequency radiation exposure at appropriate times during the drying cycle of the plant. According to the present invention, products, cigarettes, cigars, etc. can be made from tobacco that have fresh cut, green tobacco with an equal degree of tobacco specific nitrosamine content and suitable for human consumption. In preferred embodiments, the resultant tobacco products are obtained in dry, golden yellow leaves, where negligible amounts of NNN and NNK, from known carcinogens, are compared to conventionally dried tobacco. |
