The method of the present invention significantly reduces the production of carbonyl impurities, making progress on prior art methanol carbonylation methods. It has been found that the production of carbonyl impurities, particularly acetaldehyde, crotonaldehyde and 2-ethyl crotonaldehyde in methanol carbonylation reactions, by keeping the methyl iodine in the reaction medium at a rate of approximately 5% or less during the course of the reaction. |
