The method according to the present invention provides an improvement to known methanol carbonylation methods, mainly in the known state of the technique, which reduces the production of carbonyl impurities. In methanol carbonylation reactions, carbonyl impurities, particularly acetaldehyde, crotonaldehyde and 2-ethyl crotonaldehyde production have been found to decrease at a hydrogen pressure of about 0.1 to about 4 psia at a total reaction pressure of about 15 to about 40 atmospheres. |
