A method of halogenating a precursor for forming an olefin polymerization procatalyst is disclosed, wherein a magnesium / transition metal containing precursor is contacted with a halogenating agent selected from alkylaluminium halide, TiX4, SiX4, BX3, and Br2. X is a halogen, respectively, and the alkylaluminium halide, TiX4, SiX4, and Br2 are used either as a combination or as a combination when used as a halogenating agent. The procatalyst can then be converted into an olefin polymerization by contacting it with a cocatalyst and optionally a selectivity control agent, and is used for the polymerization of olefins of the desired properties at high yield. |
