This invention relates to the oxidation of 2-methylquinoxaline to the 2-quinoxaline-carboxylic acid by microbial, and is incubated under conditions that are sufficient to bring 2-methylquinoxaline into contact with a microorganism or a suitable mutant and to obtain a certain amount of said 2-quinoxalincarboxylic acid.
