abstract The above invention relates to the process for the process of obtaining crude dimethylfiltertalatin by including the return of high boiling-containing residues, while the following essentially includes the steps of the method; Oxidation of mixtures containing predominantly para-xylol (p-X) and para-toluolasitmethylester (pT-ester) in the presence of a catalyst with liquid containing excess oxygen-oxygenation, Esterification of acids obtained from oxidation with methanol; a) esterification of a pT-ester-rich fraction which is returned to oxidation, b) esterification to a crude-DMT-fraction and esterification to a high boiling residue fraction, treatment thereof when necessary and recovery of the catalyst.
