abstract Dithiepino-pyrrole derivs. of formula (I) and their acids addn. salts are new: (A=phenyl, 2-pyridyl, 2-quinolyl, or 1,8-naphthyridin-2-yl; all opt. substd. by a halo, 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy, CN or NO2. R=H, 1-4C alkl or alkanoyl, or 2-4C alkenyl) They are prepd. e.g. by reacting a 4-(chlorocarbonyl)-1-R-piperazine with the corresp. 6-hydroxy dithiepino-pyrrole. (I) are useful as tranquillisers, anti-convulsants, hypnotics and muscle relaxants, generally given at 10-500 mg/day (oral adult dose). Their LD50 (orally in mice) is generally >0.9g/kg. A typical cpd. is 6-(4-methylpiperazino)carbonyloxy-7-(4-nitrophenyl).8-Oxo-3,4,7,8- -tetrahydro-2H, 6H-dithiepino (1,4) (2,3-c) pyrrole.
