abstract The invention relates to heterocyclic compounds, in particular to the preparation of tetrachloronicotinic acid, which is a growth regulator, as well as an intermediate in the synthesis of pesticides. The goal is to accelerate the process and increase the yield of the target product. The preparation is carried out by the hydrolysis of tetrachlorocyanopyridine (THCP) with 90–93% HSO at a weight ratio of 1: (4.5–4.9) for 15–20 minutes at 115–120 ° C. The process is carried out followed by cooling the reaction mixture to 70–110 ° C and adding NaNO for 30–45 min with vigorous stirring and the molar ratio of TCCP: NaNO = 1: (1.1–1.13), yield up to 90–91%. The method provides a reduction in process time by 2 times. 1 tab.
