abstract This invention relates to organic synthesis, in particular to the preparation of terephthalic acid. C and - reduction of energy consumption. The preparation is carried out by liquid-phase oxidation of a mixture of N-xiol and a fraction containing N-toluic acid methyl ester, air oxygen at 140-170 ° C and pressure of 4-8 atm in the presence of dissolved heavy metal compounds (catalyst). The product is esterified at elevated pressure with liquid and then evaporated methanol at 220-280 ° C. The process is carried out with separation of the reaction products, recycling to the oxidation stage and separation of the resulting terephthalic acid, separation of the methanol / water mixture, which, together with the methanol-containing fraction of the secondary vapor with the esterification stage, is subjected to rectification. The latter is carried out at 83-182 ° C and 2-10.5 atm to produce an aqueous bottom product and a vapor fraction enriched in methanol, which is compressed to pressure and temperature of etirification and sent to the etirification stage. The heat obtained during compression is used to superheat the methanol-containing distillate in the vapor phase to the esterification temperature. 4 il. 4 tab.
