titleOfInvention Method of producing diphenyl methane
abstract The invention relates to aromatic hydrocarbons, in particular, a process for the preparation of diphenylmethane used for the production of benzophenone, dyes, in the perfumery and paints and varnishes industry. The goal is to increase the yield of diphenylmethane and to simplify the process. The latter is treated with waste from the production of benzyl alcohol, consisting of it from a mixture of dibenzyl ether and benzyl alcohol, with benzene in the presence of a catalytic system containing 85-95% H2SO4 and concentrated acetic acid or acetic anhydride (their molar ratio 1: (0.3- -0.5)) with boiling and vigorous stirring (1 h 15 min). After separation of the organic layer, 0.8-1.5% of the total mass of alkali metal carbonate is introduced into it and the target product is isolated by distillation. The method allows to increase the yield of diphenylmethane from 78 to 98% and simplify the process by eliminating several stages and the need to use complex equipment. ё (L
