abstract The invention relates to novel seco compounds from a class of tylosins represented by a general formula I <CHEM> wherein R stands for H or CH3, R<1> stands for H, CH3, C1-C3 acyl or aryl sulfonyl, R<2> stands for H and R<3> stands for NH2 or OH, or R<2> and R<3> together stand for O or NOH, R<4> stands for H or C1-C3 acyl, and the line - - - - stands for a double or a single bond, and to a process for their preparation. By the reaction of oximation of 4'-demicarosyl-8a-aza-8a-homorelomycin a breaking of lactams occurs and the obtained seco compound can optionally be subjected to reactions of reductive N-alkylation or to a conversion of hydroxyimino group into keto group and then optionally to N- or N,O-acylation, a catalytical hydrogenation of the double bond or a reduction of the ketone or a reduction of the hydroxyimino group into amino group.
