titleOfInvention Process for the production of purified citalopram
abstract A process for preparing purified citalopram of formula (I) wherein desmethylcitalopram of formula (III) is removed, wherein the crude citalopram product containing desmethylcitalopram impurity is optionally subjected to some initial purification followed by treatment with an amide-forming agent or amide-like group; the reaction mixture is then subjected to acid-base washing and / or crystallization and recrystallization of citalopram to remove amides formed from crude citalopram, and the resulting citalopram is then subjected to further purification to form and isolate the base or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
