Prodn. of a flame-retardant styrenic polymer, the polymer being compounded with a flame-retardant additive comprising (a) red-phosphorus and (b) a substantially water-insol. phosphorus- contg. cpd.. (b) is pref. melamine phosphate, melamine pyrophosphate, ammonium polyphosphate or ethylene diamine phosphate. The blend pref. comprises 0.5-15, more pref. 2-10, esp. 5-10 wt.% (a) and 0.5-50, more pref. 2-20, esp. 5-10 wt.% (b), relative to the wt. of polymer. The polymer is pref. a thermoplastics polymer, copolymer, terpolymer or mixed polymer, esp. a high-impact polystyrene, styrene/butadiene copolymer, acrylonitrile/butadiene/styrene terpolymer, styrene/butadiene/styrene terpolymer or styrene/acrylonitrile copolymer. |
