abstract A process is described for the isolation of organic acids and alkali metal carbonates from aqueous solutions of their salts, in which an aqueous solution of sodium or potassium salts of organic acids is brought into contact with carbon dioxide in a 1.2 to 6-fold greater amount by weight than theoretically necessary to release the acids from their salts as well as with the extraction solvent in the form of aromatic or aliphatic hydrocarbons boiling below 150 ° C, supplied at 2-20 times the weight of the released acids, this mixture being maintained at a temperature of 20 to 200 ° C and a pressure of 1.5 to 25 MPa, and then a solution of organic acids in the extraction solvent is separated from the aqueous alkali metal carbonate solution. à
