A high water content, softened cosmetic gel which, when used as a core within the sharpened pencil cylindrical shells, will also be sharpened. The gel contains approximately 25 wt. % to 42 wt. % water, about 25 wt. % to 35 wt. % polyol or aliphatic diol vehicle, for example butylene glycol, about 4 wt. % to 12 wt. % sodium stearate, about 0.1 wt. surfactant.
