titleOfInvention A process for the hydroxycarbonylation of pentenoic acids
abstract Disclosed is hydroxycarbonylation of pentenoic acid to adipic acid, and in particular a method of hydroxycarbonylation of pentenoic acid with water and carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst containing at least rhodium and / or iridium and an iodinated or brominated catalyst promoter. In the method described, the catalyst is at least partially derived from a previous batch of hydroxycarbonylation of pentenoic acid. The reaction is carried out in the presence of branched carboxylic acids containing 6 carbon atoms, present in an amount not exceeding 200 grams per kilogram of reaction mixture.
