abstract | A process for the synthesis of (4R-cis) -1,1-dimethylethyl-6-cyanomethyl-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane-4-acetate of formula (I) is described by first reacting a compound of general formula of formula (II), wherein Ar represents a phenyl group substituted by one or two substituents selected from the group consisting of halogen and nitro, is treated with alkaline iodide in a solvent at 0 ° C to the reflux temperature of the solvent used to give a compound of formula (III) and then in a second step, the compound of formula (III) is treated with a compound of formula M-CN, wherein M is an alkali metal, silver or monovalent copper, in a solvent at a temperature of from 0 ° C to 100 ° C to give a compound of formula (I). Also described are 6-iodomethyl and 6-arylsulfonyloxymethyl intermediates for the preparation of a compound of formula (I). |
