abstract The method of 3,14beta-dihydroxy-17-normorphinan of common formula (I), which is a key semiproduct of polysynthetic synthesis of effective analgesic Butorfanol formed out of thebaine is economic advantageous and in processing available. The synthesis comprising two-steps N-demethylation and dephenoxylation of 4-phenoxy-14beta-hydroxy-3-methoxymorphinan is executed, in the first stage, by chloroformate and, in the second stage, by sodium in liquid ammonia followed by O-demethylation in presence of aluminium chloride-dialkylsulphide complex.
