The invention relates to a process for the racemization of enantiomeric (S) -nicotine using a metal compound as a catalyst. This can be achieved by using a catalytic amount of catalyst or forming a complex by subsequent hydrolysis. The invention also relates to a process for the isolation of pure racemic nicotine using chromatographic techniques. |
