titleOfInvention | Diester and its use in PVC as a hydrophilizing agent |
abstract | A diester has general formula (I) wherein R is a divalent hydrocarbon group having 2-12 carbon atoms, preferably 2-6 carbon atoms, R1 is a hydrophobic group having 6-28 carbon atoms and 0-3 oxygen atoms and having an HLB value ranging from -2.6 to 4.2, as determined according to Davies, and R2 is a hydrophilic group having 5-45 carbon atoms and 2-20 oxygen atoms and having an HLB value ranging from 6.8 to 13.1, as determined according to Davies. This diester has proved suitable for use as plasticiser in PVC materials owing to its capacity to increase the hydrophilicity of the surface of the PVC material. The diester may wholly or partly replace previous plasticisers, such as C4-C12-hydrocarbon esters. |
