titleOfInvention Causticization process
abstract Causticisation process comprising steps of (1) sepg. green liquor and sludge; (2) reaction between cleaned green liquor and burnt lime; and (3) sepg. white liquor from calcium carbonate. In step (3) at least, sepn. of white liquor is done using overpressure applied above disc or drum filter to form liq. and gas phases. White liquor sepn. takes place in closed system where liquor is sepd. from gas and then gas pressure is increased in compressor before gas is returned to pressurised vessel. At least steps (2) and (3) are carried out at overpressure and this pressure is reduced during ultrafiltration of calcium carbonate to recover reaction heat. Equipment for this process is also claimed. Green liquor is predominantly sodium carbonate and reacts with slaked lime to form calcium carbonate and sodium hydroxide.
