titleOfInvention PHARMACEUTICAL PREPARATIONS FOR TREATMENT OF GASTROHYPERACIDITY, GASTRIT AND GASTRODUODENAL ULCERA
abstract Compsn. contains as active ingredients alginic acid (I) and tris(hydroxymethyl) aminomethane (II) at wt. ratio 1:0.7-2, and a 5 wt.-vol.% aq. soln. of the compsn. has pH 6-9. Pref. formulations are tablets, powders or aq. solns. of concn. 3-10%, partic. with wt. ratio (I):(II) of 1:1.2 and pH 8.5-8.7. The compsns. are useful for treating gastric hyperacidity, gastritis and gastro-duodenal ulcers. They not only neutralise excess acid but also protect the wall of the stomach (by forming a hydrophilic gel). The usual dose is 10-200 mg per kg per day and the compsns. cause no toxic manifestations in mice, rats or rabbits at 1.5g per kg (orally) nor in rabbits at 0.5 g kg intraperitoneally. A typical powder formulation was made by blending 1 kg of food-grade (I) with 0.7-2 kg (II). This could be compressed into 250 mg tablets or made up into 500 mg sachets (for dissolution in 50-100 cc water).
