A process for the preparation of indoline, indole, 1,2,3,4- tetrahydroquinoline, quinoline or a derivative thereof by subjecting an amino-alcohol of the general formula <IMAGE> in which X represents hydrogen, fluorine or an alkoxy, alkyl or amino group, and n = O, R<1> is hydrogen and R represents an alkyl or a hydroxymethyl group, or a hydrogen atom, or n = O, R<1> is phenyl and R is hydrogen, or n = 1, R<1> is hydrogen and R is hydrogen, to ring closure and optional dehydrogenation in a liquid phase by heating a hydrohalide salt of the aminoalcohol of the general formula (I) at a temperature above 120 DEG C, optionally in the presence of a platinum metal group catalyst, and, if desired, converting the resulting product into the free base. |
