titleOfInvention MONOMER COMPOSITIONS
abstract The invention relates to new monomer compositions that are free of the several drawbacks associated with compositions based on dicyclopentenyl acrylate and/or methacrylate. The new monomer compositions comprise A) a monomer with the formula <IMAGE> where R(1) is a C2-C12 alkylene group and preferably a C2- C6 alkylene group, or else it is a C2-C12 oxyalkylene group and preferably a C4-C12 oxyalkylene group, containing one or more oxygen atoms binding the alkylene segments in the group, where each such segment has a chain length of at least two carbon atoms extending between the oxygen atoms, and optionally one or more of the following groups: i) a C8-C20 alkyl acrylate and/or alkyl methacrylate group and preferably a C10-C20 alkyl acrylate or alkyl methacrylate group, or a C8-C20 alkenyl acrylate and/or alkenyl methacrylate group and preferably a C10-C20 alkenyl acrylate and/or alkenyl methacrylate group, ii) a di-C1-C20 alkyl fumarate, maleate or itaconate group, iii) a vinyl ester of a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic acid with 8-20 and preferably 10-20 carbon atoms, iv) dicyclopentenyl acrylate and/or methacrylate, v) a polyethylenically unsaturated monomer containing at least two groups with the formula H2C=C<; B) at least one of the following: a drying oil, a film- forming polymer, an organic polyisocyanate, a reaction product formed from an organic polyisocyanate and an alkyd resin or a drying oil, and a polyisocyanate prepolymer, C) a siccative, and optionally D) a stabilizer.
