abstract | The invention relates to a basal mixture which comprises a dispersed and homogeneous mixture of at least one starch-containing constituent, fat, at least one polyhydric alcohol, and water, and, according to the invention, the starch-containing constituent comprises 10- 90% by weight of the mixture, the polyhydric alcohol comprises 3-50% by weight of the mixture and the fat comprises 5-55% by weight of the mixture, with at least 5% by weight of the mixture consisting of water. This basal mixture is used for producing a soft, dry animal feed and a composite, dry animal feed comprising a hard component and a soft component, which latter consists of the soft, dry animal feed. The invention also relates to a process for producing the basal mixture, which process is characterised by the following steps: a) 10-90% of at least one starch-containing constituent, which includes at least 0.5% by weight of derivatised starch, 5-55% of at least one fat component, 3-50% of at least one polyhydric alcohol and at least 5% water are mixed in order to obtain a mixture ; b) the mixture is heated sufficiently to gel or boil the starch-containing constituent, in order to form the basal mixture ; and c) the basal mixture is recovered. |
