abstract A method is disclosed for preparing the "D" form of an optically active aminoacid derivative from a racemic hydantoin. The method of the invention comprises subjecting the racemic hydantoin to hydrolysis in the presence of an enzymatic complex derived from the strain of microorganisms of the genus Pseudomonas which is designated sp. 942 (CBS 145.75) or sp. 945 (CBS 146.75), the hydrolysis being effected at a temperature in the range of from 10.degree. to 60.degree.C., and at an alkaline pH in the range of from pH 7 to pH 10.
