titleOfInvention | Formaldehyde and formate-reduced polyol process |
abstract | Formaldehyde reduced process for preparation of a di, tri or polyalcohol from formaldehyde and a second aldehyde. The process comprises the steps of (i) aldol condensation, in the presence of at least one alkaline catalyst, of formaldehyde and a second aldehyde yielding a methylolaldehyde and (ii) subjecting yielded methylolaldehyde to a transfer hydrogenation with HCOO- at a molar ratio methylolaldehyde to HCOO- of 1:0.3-1.5 and in the presence of an effective amount of at least one transfer hydrogenation catalyst. The transfer hydrogenation yields said di, tri or polyalcohol and hydrogen carbonate. |
