titleOfInvention Carrier supported liquid membranes coupled to mass spectrometry via an interface based on differential ion mobility spectrometry
abstract Extraction and analysis (M1) comprising analyzing sample by enrichment using supported liquid membranes (SLM), field-asymmetric ion mobility spectrometry (FAIMS) and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), is new. An extraction and analysis technique for different analytes (8) comprises extracting the analyte from a first liquid phase (1) into a second liquid phase (4) via a supported porous membrane impregnated with an intermediate liquid phase (3), so that the analyte becomes concentrated in the second phase. Additives can be mixed into the second phase in order to ionize the analyte (10). The second phase is ionized at atmospheric pressure to form analyte ions in the gas phase and all the gas phase ions are supplied to a field-asymmetric ion mobility spectrometer which separates the ions according to the high field mobility to low field mobility ratio. The chosen ions at a given time are analyzed according to the mass/charge ratio using a mass spectrometer.
