titleOfInvention | ADSL transmission system including proxy function router based on DHCP message management |
abstract | The system includes a premises router and an asymmetric digital subscriber line termination unit remote (ATU-R) designed to connect a number of customer terminals via a digital subscriber line access multiplier (DSLAM) to a location area code (LAC). The premises router is designed to function as a point-to-point protocol (PPP) proxy to the customer terminal routes, the proxy-function being based on the use of the dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) announcement generated by the terminals and used to provide the premises server with the information needed to maintain PPP sessions. The system supports the availability of telecommunication services to customers on a multiple-host computer/multiple-service basis, and includes a LAC and a layer two (L2) core network used for connection to the internet via an internet servicer provider (ISP) local network server (LNS), a company LNS and a number of customer terminals. Independent claims are also included for (a) the above asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) transmission system containing an access router instead of a premises router, (b) a method for supporting the availability of telecommunication services in the above network using the above system, and (c) the premises router. |
