titleOfInvention Cationic tannin and its use in wastewater purification
abstract Cationic tannin comprises a tannin-contg. conifer bark extract, crosslinked before cationisation with a glycidyl trimethyl ammonium chloride, an N-(3-chloro -2-hydroxypropyl) trimethyl ammonium chloride or a dimethylamine reagent. Process pref. comprises crosslinking with HCHO or epichlorohydrin. The flocculant compsn. pref. also contains an inorganic coagulant, and a high-mol. cationic, anionic or neutral linear polymer. USE/ADVANTAGE - As flocculant in purificn. of waste water contain the cationic tannin. Flocculation efficiency is improved, and active flocculants are obtd. from low-tannin fractions. (In)organic cpds., e.g. organo-Cl cpds. in bleaching waste water, and N- and P-contg. foodstuffs, are flocculated.
