abstract Novel 21 - (apocamphane - 1 - carbonyloxy)-20 - oxo - steroids of the pregnane series are obtained in a process in which a functional derivative of apocamphane-1-carboxylic acid is reacted with a 21-hydroxy-20-oxo steroid of the partial general formula St-CO-CH2OH (wherein St represents a steroid nucleus), in the presence of a tertiary base, e.g. pyridine, N,N-dimethylaniline or triethylamine, to give the corresponding 21 - (apocamphane - 1 - carbonyloxy)-20-oxo-steroid Pharmaceutical compositions containing the above compounds and having anti-inflammatory activity are administered parenterally, topically or rectally.
