abstract | FIELD: construction materials.SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a method for producing light ceramic sand and using it as a building material, and also as light sand used in hydraulic fracturing for shale gas extraction. The method for producing light ceramic sand includes dry spraying of fly ash in an amount from 5 to 50 wt. %, in wet bauxite residue in an amount from 50 to 95 wt. %, with simultaneous rotation of the rotor and the pallet, optional addition of bentonite in an amount from 0 to 5 wt. %, or fine silica from 0 to 10 wt. %, to fly ash or to wet bauxite residue, formation of granules using a high-intensity agitator providing high shear stresses, drying of granules at temperatures from 150 to 300°C in a fluidized bed to obtain dried granules, high-temperature sintering of dried granules at a temperature from 1015 to 1275°C to obtain light ceramic sand. Light ceramic sand is obtained by the above method. Light ceramic sand is used for the production of light mortars and concrete.
