FIELD: technological processes. n SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing an aromatic nitrile compound. Method includes a dehydration reaction for dehydrating an aromatic amide compound. Diphenyl ether is used in said dehydration reaction. Dehydration reaction is carried out while boiling diphenyl ether. Diphenyl ether has a boiling point higher than the boiling point of the aromatic nitrile compound and the boiling point of water and lower than the boiling point of the aromatic amide compound.
