abstract FIELD: metallurgy.SUBSTANCE: invention relates to crystalline oxyhydroxide-molybdate of a transition metal, a hydrotreatment catalyst, a method of producing crystalline oxyhydroxide-molybdate of a transition metal, a method of producing a hydrotreatment catalyst and a hydrotreatment method. Transition metal crystalline oxyhydroxide-molybdate has the formula: (NH)M (OH)MoO, where "a" is in range from 0.1 to 10; "M" is a metal selected from Mg, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn and mixtures thereof; "b" is in range from 0.1 to 2; "x" is in range from 0.5 to 1.5; and "y" is a number which corresponds to the sum of valencies a, M, b and x; wherein the crystalline oxyhydroxide-molybdate of the transition metal has a powder X-ray diffraction pattern showing peaks at d-distances listed in Table A. Method of producing crystalline oxyhydroxide-molybdate of a transition metal involves: (a) forming a reaction mixture containing NH, HO and sources M and Mo; (b) adjusting the pH of the reaction mixture to pH of 8.5 to 10; (c) reacting the reaction mixture in range of 100 °C to 220 °C in autogenous medium; and (d) recovering crystalline oxyhydroxide-molybdate of a transition metal. Hydrotreatment catalyst contains sulfided crystalline oxyhydroxide-molybdate of a transition metal.
