abstract FIELD: medicine. n SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medicine, namely to processing of medical images of a part of the body of a human or animal, and can be used to determine medical data using the received image. In the method, an apparatus designed to implement the method contains: a receiver for receiving a first image representing the characteristics of a part of the body of a human or animal; a signature unit that determines a set of signatures associated with the image from the first image; a sample store for storing a set of samples, each sample containing a set of signatures associated with the samples and medical data; a matching unit for determining a set of matching samples from the set of samples as a result of comparing the set of signatures associated with the image with the set of signatures associated with a sample from among the set of samples; and a decision unit, configured to determine the medical data for the first image in response to the medical data contained in the samples from the set of matching samples, wherein the signature unit is adapted to detect objects in the image that meet the criterion, wherein at least one signature from the set of signatures associated with the image is formed in response to changes in the local density of objects in the image that meet the criteria. n EFFECT: group of inventions provides an increase in the efficiency of processing medical images of a part of the body of a human or animal. n 14 cl, 13 dwg
