abstract | FIELD: chemistry. n SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an aqueous coating composition, a method for producing multilayer paint systems, a multilayer paint system, as well as the use of coating compositions. Said coating composition comprises at least one aqueous dispersion, which includes at least one copolymer (CP). Copolymer (CP) is obtained via (I) initial loading of an aqueous dispersion of at least one polyurethane and then (II) polymerising a mixture of olefin-unsaturated monomers in the presence of polyurethane from step (I), where (a) a water soluble initiator is used, (b) olefinically unsaturated monomers are measured so that throughout the entire reaction their concentration in the reaction solution does not exceed 6.0 % by weight based on the total amount of olefin-unsaturated monomers used for polymerisation, and (c) the mixture of olefinically unsaturated monomers comprises at least one polyolefinically unsaturated monomer and from 0.1 to 15 wt. % at least one unbranched hydroxy-functional reaction product (R). Reaction product (R) has an acid number of less than 20 mg KOH/g and is obtained by the reaction of dimeric fatty acids with at least one aliphatic dihydroxy-functional compound having a number average molecular weight of 120–6,000 g/mol. Molar ratio of dimeric fatty acids to the dihydroxy-functional compound is 0.7/2.3–1.6/1.7.
