Personal health data collection |
abstract |
FIELD: medicine.SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medical equipment. Personal hand-held monitor (PHHM) for collecting personal health data comprises signal acquisition device which can be used to measure a subject's blood pressure (BP). Signal acquisition device is integrated with a personal hand-held computing device (PHHCD) and comprises a blood flow occlusion means, a means for measuring the pressure applied by or to the body part, and a means for detecting the flow of blood through the body part in contact with the blood flow occlusion means. Blood flow occlusion means is adapted to be pressed against one side only of a body part or to have one side only of a body part pressed against it. Blood flow occlusion means comprises part of an external surface of the PHHM. Pressure is sensed by means of a flexible and essentially incompressible gel in which is immersed a pressure sensor, adapted to provide electrical signals to the processor of the PHHCD.EFFECT: improved communication between the part of the user's body to which the PHHM is applied and the pressure sensor due to the fact that pressure or pressure waves are sensed and transmitted through a flexible and essentially incompressible gel into which the pressure sensor is immersed, with the result that the pressure of the user is transmitted to the pressure measurement sensor more accurately.29 cl, 24 dwg, 1 tbl |
