abstract FIELD: chemistry. n SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a coating composition comprising a self-oxidizing alkyd resin and a desiccant composition. Desiccant composition comprises: a) an iron-ligand complex containing iron and at least one bispidine ligand; and b) a vanadium compound. Amount of the vanadium compound in the desiccant is such that the coating composition contains vanadium in a concentration in the range of from 0.01 to 1.0 % by weight. based on the weight of the solid alkyd resin. Amount of the iron-ligand complex in the desiccant is such that the coating composition contains iron in a concentration in the range of 0.5×10 -4 up to 5×10 -3  wt.% based on the weight of the solid alkyd resin. n EFFECT: invention provides coatings that dry out over a short period of time, with a low tendency to yellowing, with good initial and final hardness. n 12 cl, 1 tbl, 12 ex
