abstract | FIELD: chemistry. n SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a liquid intumescent composition, substrates coated with said composition, and to a method for protecting structures from fire. Composition comprises (a) 25.0–75.0 % by volume of one or more organic thermosetting polymer(s) and one or more curing agent(s) for the organic thermosetting polymer(s), wherein the organic thermosetting polymer is an epoxy resin and the curing agent is selected from an amine functionalized curing agent, a thiol group, a carboxylic acid group, an anhydride group and/or an alcohol group, (b) 5.0–25.0 wt. % a source of phosphoric or sulphonic acid selected from one or more of sodium, potassium or ammonium salts of phosphoric or sulfuric acid and p-toluene-sulphonic acid, (c) 10.0–50.0 wt. % a boric acid source selected from one or more of boric acid, boric acid salts, and borosilicates, (d) 0–2.0 wt. % melamine or melamine derivatives, (e) 0–1.0 wt. % one or more isocyanurate derivatives, wherein wt. % is calculated based on the total volume of nonvolatile components in the coating composition. n EFFECT: technical result consists in the preparation of a composition having high strength and high thermal protection properties. n 11 cl, 1 tbl, 3 ex |
