abstract FIELD: chemistry. n SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for the coloring of plastics, in the production of colored concrete, tiles, ceramics, pottery and porcelain. Method for the preparation of iron oxide pigments involves the preparation of a precipitate of iron (II) hydroxide by alkalization with ammonia to pH 9.0–9.2 of a solution containing iron (II) sulfate ions. Resulting precipitate is separated by filtration, and thermal oxidation is carried out at a temperature of 400–1,000 °C to obtain the pigment of the desired color. Oxidation of the filtrate with air oxygen to pH 4.1–4.7 is carried out to obtain a yellow pigment of iron (III). Yellow pigment is separated by filtration and dried at a temperature of no higher than 120 °C.
